ADB - Fintelekt Seminar: Digital Payment Systems, Mobile Money Services & Agent Banking

January 23, 2018
Hotel Lakeshore, Gulshan 2, Dhaka

The rapid penetration of smartphones, aided by private sector innovation has fuelled high rate of growth in digital payments and mobile money services in Bangladesh. Due to growing accessibility and viability, mobile money services, in particular, are showing the promise of expanding financial inclusion in the country.

The regulatory environment in Bangladesh around digital payments and mobile money, although developing, is positive and encouraging. Fintech is expected to play a significant role too, by helping to supplement and diversify the existing financial eco-system.

In this context, Fintelekt, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) organised a seminar on “Digital Payment Systems, Mobile Money Services and Agent Banking”. ADB presented the highlights from its recent study on financial disruption and inclusion. In addition, the seminar featured speakers who discussed opportunity areas within existing distribution systems, potential for fintech-led disruption, collaborative frameworks, and regulatory expectations on mobile money services and digital payment systems.
