Session Overview: The insurance industry is recovering from several downtrends. From the securities market meltdown in 2009 and the subsequent storm on the ULIP issue, to de-tariffing virtually reducing prices in some P&C sectors by 90%, to the challenges of dealing in Health Insurance for the below-poverty-line population as well as claim ratios exceeding 100%, and finally to the new dawn of the Insurance Bill becoming the new Act, the industry has seen many changes and has reacted to them constantly. In view of the new Act, especially in terms of agency and correct and professional selling practices, the Industry needs to move strategically and pro-actively to adopt customer friendly, yet regulator-accepted, selling practices. The overall customer-facing sales and service strategies of the companies need to flow from the company philosophy and the CEO-driven execution philosophy. The discussion will centre around the imperatives, the 'nice-to-haves', and the strategies of insurance company CEOs, to make their organizations' products and sales approaches friendly and accessible to the new-age customer and to regain the trust which has arguably become a little elusive in today's industry.
