About the Virtual Masterclass

As jurisdictions prepare for the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) 5th Round of Mutual Evaluations, financial institutions are expected to demonstrate not only compliance with AML/CFT requirements, but also the effectiveness of their risk management frameworks in practice.

The revised FATF Methodology places greater emphasis on institutional risk understanding, the application of proportionate controls, and the contribution of the private sector to national AML/CFT objectives. This means being able to evidence how money laundering, terrorist financing and proliferation financing risks are identified, assessed and translated into effective governance, customer due diligence, transaction monitoring and suspicious transaction reporting.

This intensive 90-minute Masterclass will provide participants with an overview of the evolving expectations under the FATF’s 5th Round and explore how financial institutions can strengthen the effectiveness of their AML/CFT programmes. Drawing on international standards, emerging assessment practices and operational experience, participants will gain practical insights into how institutions can better demonstrate risk-based decision making, improve the quality of institutional risk assessments and enhance the intelligence value of Suspicious Transaction Reports.

Whether you work in banking, insurance, securities, payments, fintech, virtual assets or other regulated sectors, this masterclass will help you anticipate future expectations and prepare your institution for the next phase of AML/CFT supervision.

Key learning areas:

  • The evolving focus of the FATF’s 5th Round Mutual Evaluations and the implications for financial institutions and DNFBPs.
  • How to develop and maintain institutional risk assessments that effectively identify and prioritise material ML/TF/PF risks.
  • Translating institutional risk assessments into proportionate customer due diligence, transaction monitoring and governance arrangements.
  • Strengthening intelligence-led compliance through the effective use of typologies and emerging risk information.
  • Improving the quality and intelligence value of Suspicious Transaction Reports.
  • Practical measures institutions can take to demonstrate the effectiveness of their AML/CFT frameworks during supervisory inspections and mutual evaluations.

Why Attend?

In this instructor-led live virtual masterclass (delivered via Zoom), the trainer will discuss:

  1. How will the FATF’s 5th Round Mutual Evaluations change supervisory expectations for financial institutions?
  2. What does the FATF mean by an effective, risk-based AML/CFT framework, and how can institutions demonstrate this in practice?
  3. How should institutional risk assessments influence governance, customer due diligence, transaction monitoring and suspicious transaction reporting?
  4. What role does the private sector play in contributing to a country’s AML/CFT effectiveness, and how can institutions demonstrate that contribution during mutual evaluations?
  5. What practical steps should financial institutions take now to strengthen their readiness for the FATF’s 5th Round?

He is an Associate Fellow at Royal United Services Institute, where his work focuses on proliferation financing risks, typologies and policy responses.
